WIR II

WIR II: Workshops for integration and prevention of radicalization

In March 2018, the IOM Country Office for Austria started implementing a pilot project aimed at supporting adolescents and young adults with Chechen roots with the development of their identity in a multicultural setting within the Austrian society.

Phase II of the project will benefit from the positive outcomes of the pilot initiative and IOM’s already established presence among Chechen communities in Vienna and Linz. The project will further contribute to increasing resilience among at-risk youth and empowering communities in supporting their youth in building up their identity as Chechens in Austria. Moreover, based on recommendations from the community, the second phase of the project will target specifically Chechen girls.

Different workshops will address the history and current state of affairs in both the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Austria and will increase beneficiaries’ media literacy and social skills in intercultural communication and conflict management. The overarching objective is to prevent radicalization. The pilot project is implemented in strong cooperation with the association Großes Schiff and other actors in the field of youth work.
