Vienna
In the context of the Austrian EU-Presidency, the EMN National Contact Point Austria hosted the EMN Annual Conference 2018 with the title “Managing Migration - from Reacting to Shaping”. The event brought together more than 150 representatives of the EU, Member States and Non-EU countries as well as international organizations, NGOs and academia. With the aim to critically reflect on the external dimension of the European migration policy, 21 distinguished speakers discussed global migration trends and challenges, as well as the role of the EU.
In three thematic panels participants learned about the current political and academic debate regarding migration cooperation between the EU and third countries, the return of migrants and sustainable approaches to reintegration, as well as local protection and support measures for migrants and displaced persons.
A forthcoming conference report will summarize the contributions of the speakers, as well as the discussions and main conclusions of the panels. For more information about the conference, please visit www.emn.at/annualconference2018.
