On 3 December 2019, the IOM Research and Migration Law Unit organized the Austrian National EMN Conference 2019 titled “Migration and Communication – Information Campaigns in Countries of Origin and Transit”. Together with experts from academia, policy and international organizations as well as more than 100 international participants, we discussed promising and innovative ideas and elaborated on how to enhance evidence-based communication strategies targeting (potential) migrants.
The conference was centred around four key questions:
What do we know about the effectiveness of information and awareness-raising campaigns for (potential) migrants?
Can information change behaviour?
How can the impact of information and awareness-raising campaigns be measured?
What should future campaigns look like?
For a summary of the main results of the conference, please see the briefing paper and the video.
