Operational and qualitative support of the Austrian Return and Reintegration System
IOM Austria is implementing the project " RESTART IV – Operational and Qualitative Support of the Austrian Return and Reintegration System“ from
1 May 2023 to 31 December 2025. This project is co-financed by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) of the European Union and the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior. The project aims to provide operational support for voluntary return and reintegration, with a special focus on vulnerable returnees, as well as qualitative support for the system, including capacity building and training, networking and exchange.
Operational support for Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration
Within the framework of this project, third country nationals can be assisted in their voluntary return and in their sustainable reintegration in the country of return.
Return Assistance
The project currently foresees return assistance for the following target groups: vulnerable migrants or migrants in need of additional support during the travel; migrants participating in an IOM reintegration project; migrants who have a legal residence status in Austria.
Return assistance consists of the following:
- Individual assessment and assistance;
- Pre-departure information sessions prior to the return in case needed;
- Logistical travel organization;
- Departure assistance at Vienna International Airport and assistance at transit airports;
- If required, reception assistance and support with organization of onward transportation to the final destination.
Reintegration Assistance
Currently, the project foresees reintegration assistance in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Somalia and Uzbekistan. One person per household is eligible to participate.
Reintegration assistance consists of the following:
- Post-arrival counselling;
- Cash assistance of EUR 500 per project participant;
- In-kind reintegration assistance of EUR 3,000;
- Additional in-kind assistance for sustainable reintegration activities available;
- Needs-based assistance for returnees in vulnerable situations;
- Referral to support organizations;
- Monitoring interviews with and visits to participants.
Qualitative support for the Austrian Return System
The project focuses on strengthening the capacities of all actors involved in the Austrian return system through training and topic-related information events. Return counsellors in particular will be addressed.
Qualitative support consists of the following:
- Provision of well-established trainings on AVRR and additional trainings on specific topics;
- Organization of topic-specific events;
- Research activities on voluntary return and reintegration;
- Information provision on voluntary return and reintegration to migrants and multipliers;
- Quarterly newsletter on activities in the area of voluntary return and reintegration.
