The project aimed to contribute towards the enhancement of the quality of guardianship and overall care of unaccompanied minor asylum seekers in the targeted countries in line with the EU Action Plan on Unaccompanied Minors, EU directives and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Participating countries were Bulgaria, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. Furthermore, the project sought to monitor and improve the quality of guardianship and care in order to ensure that the best interests of the child are represented and adequate care and support are provided to the child, facilitating in this way his/her integration into the host society. The project also addressed the lack of established practices in the participating countries to offer higher standards of protection and assistance to unaccompanied minors asylum seekers.
IOM Vienna developed a training of trainers curriculum and training manual for social workers and legal guardians; and implemented a training for trainers in the course of the project
The project was co-financed by the European Refugee Fund and by the Polish Office for Foreigners and the Organisation for Aid to Refugees from Czechia.
